Programs / Activities
National Elementary Honor Society
The SWE chapter of National Elementary Honor Society focuses on community service and strives to positively impact the lives of those around us by being role models. The students that are involved in NEHS are invited based upon the meeting of academic requirements, previous community service, and teacher recommendations.
Robotics
Students who participate in the Robotics Club are role models, creative thinkers, and problem solvers. They use Legos to design and program robots, and learn research and collaboration skills to solve a real world problem.
SWE Broadcast Club
The SWE Broadcast Club focuses on giving students an opportunity to learn and utilize skills associated with televising a live news show. The Broadcast Club will plan and implement all activities required to televise our show. They will be finding stories of interest, filming or photographing various school activities, writing a script, editing videos and photographs, and operating the various equipment required to make the live show possible.
Band and Choir
The Sixth Ward Elementary music program strives to offer its students a first class experience in musical performance. All students engage in music concepts & history through our general music classes from PK-5th grade. Starting in kindergarten, students may join strings, which meet once a week. Then, in third grade, students are allowed to join band & choir, which meet 3 times a week. These two groups perform in festivals, host holiday programs, and showcase a grand finale at the end of the year.
Pep Squad
The Cardinal Pep Squad is a fun way for students in grades 3-5 to show their school spirit and build leadership skills. Members learn basic cheer motions, chants, and dances to perform at school and community events, such as Sixth Ward Pep Rallies, Creekside and Pear River High sporting events, and Mardi Gras parades. Signups for pep squad take place in the spring of each school year for the upcoming year.
